I love the idea of the Madness series reinventing itself with more of a horror theme. It's got everything established up to this point where that could REALLY work well with what's been going on lately in the story...you already have zombies, super soldiers, genetic mutations, and a mysterious dark entity that can manipulate all kinds of bullshit. The frantic, fluid action of gunkata has been well established and flexed...I'm excited to see suspense and horrors in this setting.

...speaking of horrors...what the hell happened to Crabclaw Hank?

I won't believe for a second that Jesus is dead, (looool I realize what you're making me type) because nobody seems to stay dead in this series. But with the dark bosses "brain-fuck" abilities well established, and apparently maiming Jebus, I would like to see the opportunity for the series to assume a different role.

The only problem I had with this is

A) It's obscenely short
B) None of the soldiers seemed to react to the (delayed) gunfire from the rifle. Well, and by none, I mean the only one that could've or would've...the third guy is excusable, what-with being possessed. But its the other two that bother me...even if it takes a while for the sound of the shot to reach him after the guy on the roof was dropped, the grunt still walks up to the window and is like "hmm?"

Though, I dunno...maybe the guy on the roof would've heard it clearer, been startled, and promptly hid himself. I'm overthinking it.

Hope to see more, lengthier animations from you, Krinkles. Voted 4.

It's not very clear what that thing at the end is. What is he holding up, his wallet? The cell phone battery?

The ambient noise only really seemed to be there to keep it from being dead silent. While I appreciate a style that lets the mood breathe without having a constant stream of noise or music, the sound seems a little lacking after watching it twice. I felt like it could've used a voice over...something to punctuate an agonizing ordeal, or a weakened, fearful breath to engross the audience into getting a fuller idea to the pain. A gurgled wheeze as he chokes back blood and puke...a voice actor could've helped this thing, for as short as it was.

It looked great! The movement was very nice, it was really interesting to watch (in some morbid way.) I appreciate the tone that was set, the contrast from the beginning to end...though the cause of it all was kind of underwhelming, the reveal of his dire predicament lent the shock necessary to keep this baby strong in our memories. The more memorable it is, the better.

Keep up the great work, buddy!

Pepul may think this review is worthless.....GO AHEAD. I DON'T CARE!!!

BL*M THIS PIECE OF joy! I'm glad you did a follow-up to the AMAZING spectacle of butt-hurt that came in the wake of a pretty awesome April Fools joke. Shit will go down into the annals (anals?) of NG history.

10/10 would watch again.

I'm living the filter effect to give it that awesome cel-shaded look! ...Or did you actually cel shade an animation?

How did you do it?

This was just what I needed when I came to peruse Newgrounds and vent the pressures of a stressed mind preparing for finals! I knew I could always depend on you, HappyHarry, to deliver :D Great work as always! I'm looking forward to your next submission with a wide grin on my face.

Looks good! I'm looking forward to something more substantial added to this character.

I like the reflection of the fire in his eyes, I like the warmth of the lighting.

I don't like that the only ambient movement is subtle breathing, pipe-moving, and blinking. I wish he was doing something else that a normal person would do at a campfire.

...For example, its raining...is he cold? Is he trying to stay more dry? He's just kinda dead-eyed as he stares into the fire. Though I suppose that lends credit to the "Weary" in the title...

Also, I found myself staring at the smooth, undisturbed pillar of smoke coming off of his pipe. Not only did I begin thinking of the rain interfering with the bowl, but the smoke didn't look natural. It seemed completely undisturbed by the rain, and the solidity of the grey didn't seem right.

Might I recommend you kinda play a bit of a motion trick on us with the smoke. Instead of a pillar, think of the smoke as a tiny, white/gray flame flickering out like a tongue just inches out of the bowl...but only occasionally.

Look at tobacco pipes of similar nature and watch with great attention to detail on how that smoke reacts. The reality in how it behaves is a beauty that you can incorporate into future animations.

thanks for the thoughtful response and critique!
I didn't want to add any complicated animation to the character (like poking the fire) to keep it simple as possible. He is supposed to be a weathered "ranger" type, so I didn't want to show him vulnerable and shivering, just indifferent to the rain. Like he is doing the same ole thing as every night on his journey...
Your right about the smoke. I favored a more cartoony/stylized approach to it, rather than more realistic to try and match the exaggerated cartoon features of the character. Although the rain would cause the pipe bowl to "spit" and probably snuff it out, rain would not disturb the path of smoke, although wind would. I smoke my pipe a lot outdoors, which is a big part of the inspiration to this piece.
thanks again for giving me lots to consider!

It holds up! GOD I've missed these critters.

I love it, like always. Some of that primo nostalgia right in the bloodstream! It's charming and efficient in its simplicity, and my only complaint is there ain't more of 'em to watch.

How could I NOT vote 5 on this!?

This is DISSSGUSTINGly good. I was completely engrossed into the story, I loved the yellow snails dialogue and voice actor...the idea of wood being an insect diety was satisfying, and I would love to see a continuation of this setting, this universe of characterized bugs. I liked it a lot! Got a couple of solid chuckles out of me, so I voted 5!

Fantastic! Though just a quickie, it's as satisfying as a breath of fresh air, after asphyxiating under the stuffy weight of Pokemon Parodies and un innovative Madness cartoons.

The vibrant color scheme throughout, met hand in hand with the STUNNING frame by frame has always and WILL ALWAYS set your style apart from others. You're a talented marvel, and I would love to learn the habits you've developed when it comes to frame by frame animation.

It was really quick, though. The quality of it all makes up for the run-time, but it only leaves me wanting more Starbarians. I can't wait to see what you've done with episode 2! I'll be waiting with bated breath!

All y'all haters down there just need to get a sense of humor, this is great.

It's funny because.....um....because it's a rock type Pokemon...and uhhh....electric type Pokemon. Heh...they AREN'T VERY EFFECTIVE...against uh....against the rock types.

No...no that's not what was funny about it...hold on...

It's FUNNY...because the trainer with the Geodude had to um...had to put a piece of tape with Geodude's name on it? That way he didn't throw out the wrong Pokeball...no, wait...lemme try again.

It was the way he THREW the ball...all limp wristed? No? Okay, then it HAD to have been the goofy face? Or at least that a red glow effect was added to his eyebrows? No that's not very funny, hold on, I'M REALLY TRYING HERE. I'LL GET THIS! Just...gimme a second...

Maybe the funny bit was because the guy with "Pi" was nearly naked and oiled up? ....Really? That wasn't the funny part? Because it WAS pretty silly...I mean, they normally don't do that in the Pokemon games, right? This IS a Pokemon parody, isn't it? ....Is THAT what's funny about it? Because it's yet another Pokemon Parody. Everybody's doing them so they must be great ...Damn, thought I had it...

Okay okay okay...THIS FLASH IS FUNNY....because Pi did his annoying little "Pi" call, right? Haha...BUT....instead of it killing Geodude, heh....Geodude CRUSHED Pi into a bloody heap. BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE! AFTER PI got crushed! Hahaha, the Geodude went RIGHT UP TO IT'S TRAINER'S FACE....OHOHOHO....AND gave him a BLOODY FUCKING MIDDLE FINGER!!!! LOL

THAT NEVER happens in the Pokemon games! That makes it hilarious!

I totally nailed it! YES!
